OSHA's new Injury Tracking App (ITA)

OSHA Launched App for Submitting Injury and Illness Data

OSHA is now accepting electronic submissions of injury and illness data via the Injury Tracking Application (ITA). Click here to access ITA.

The ITA will allow users to electronically submit required injury and illness data from their completed 2016 OSHA Form 300A, and thus comply with the December 1, 2017 compliance deadline.  The site also contains helpful information about reporting requirements, frequently asked questions, instructions for uploading data to the app, and a link to request assistance with completing the form.

4 Step Data Submission Process:

  1. Creating an establishment
  2. Adding 300A summary data
  3. Submitting data to OSHA
  4. Reviewing the confirmation email.

3 Options for Data Submission:

  • Manually enter data into a web form.
  • Upload a CSV file to process single or multiple establishments at the same time.
  • Transmit data electronically via an application programming interface (for users of automated recordkeeping systems).

After creating an account, OSHA predicts that it will take employers about ten minutes to report the data on Form 300A.  Click here to create your account.

The electronic recordkeeping rule has created controversy, since OSHA plans to make the workplace injury data public. As a result, many have predicted the regulation would be discarded under the new administration.  There is no harm for employers to take a wait-and-see approach for now.  Let OSHA get any potential bugs worked out of the online submittal process and ascertain that this rule will still be in effect by December 1st.
